Defenders of Wildlife Praises Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Brian Schatz for Introduction of the American Opportunity Carbon Fee Act

Washington, D.C. — Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) today announced the introduction of the American Opportunity Carbon Fee Act. This bill strives to bring accountability to polluters, while protecting jobs and re-investing in critical priorities like climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The following is a statement from Defenders of Wildlife’s Vice President for Climate Change and Natural Resources Adaptation Noah Matson:

“Climate change is happening now and every American is paying the costs. And the effects on our communities, infrastructure, public health, wildlife and habitat are only poised to worsen dramatically. Senators Whitehouse and Schatz are true champions for the environment and are proving it through the introduction of the American Opportunity Carbon Fee Act, which will hold polluters accountable while supporting investment in clean energy and measures to protect communities from climate change impacts.”
