American Express and TakePart partnership benefits multiple charities each year
WASHINGTON (03/02/2011) -Defenders of Wildlife is excited and honored to be chosen as a winner in the Environment & Wildlife category of the Members Project program from American Express. The $200,000 prize will help Defenders to continue its work to conserve native plants and animals and to develop innovative, science-based solutions to the many challenges facing wildlife and wild lands today.
The following is a statement from Rodger Schlickeisen, President of Defenders of Wildlife:
“We’re so grateful to all of our supporters who helped to vote us into first place! For more than 65 years, Defenders of Wildlife has led the fight to save threatened and endangered species with innovative approaches that help imperiled wildlife survive in an ever-changing world.
“Defenders of Wildlife works every day to save something wild, whether it be fighting for the survival of polar bears, helping wolves where they are most imperiled, protecting sea turtles from dangerous fishing practices, or promoting new safeguards for Florida panthers and California’s sea otters. We’re responding to the increasing threats posed by global climate change to our wildlife and wild places, and advocating for clean energy solutions that keep wildlife out of harm’s way.
