The U.S. Department of Agriculture and a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators announced a new strategy for improving wildfire management across the nation’s forestlands today.
Statement from Defenders of Wildlife’s Director of Federal Lands Pete Nelson:
“We are facing unprecedented challenges in wildfire management, and there are no silver bullets. As climate-driven wildfires become the new normal, we need to focus on consensus-based, science-driven wildfire management solutions, rather than finger-pointing, name calling and pushing to abandon environmental laws and safeguards”
“Defenders of Wildlife looks forward to working with Secretary Perdue, the Forest Service and congressional leaders to implement effective policies that will reduce wildfire risks to communities and firefighters, protect wildlife habitat and restore fire and climate resiliency to degraded forestlands.”
