Obama Administration Makes Courageous Decision to Veto Keystone Pipeline bill

Contact: Haley McKey, 202-772-0247, hmckey@defenders.org

WASHINGTON (Tuesday, February 24, 2015) – The following is a statement from Jamie Rappaport Clark, president and CEO of Defenders of Wildlife:

“The Obama administration has consistently said that science should rule the day in environmental decision-making. Today, it took a heroic stand on this commitment.

“President Obama has made the right call in rejecting this bill. Instead of continuing to kowtow to Big Oil, we should be weaning ourselves off the dirty fossil fuels of the last century and leading the global charge toward clean energy solutions for our country. The Keystone pipeline is an oil spill waiting to happen, with potentially devastating effects for local communities and important habitat for countless species of wildlife.”
